Antje's fast growing fan base, the viral spreading of her music and a track
record of sold-out shows are a testament to her growing popularity. Neil
Dorfsman, the producer of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Sting says,
"When I first heard Antje I knew I was witnessing something very special.
She creates an entire, detailed world in verse, and takes you there with
beautiful and understated melody. Her songs are stunning paintings of color and
shade and always generate the heat and light that real art should. In an
unpoetic and 'in your face' world, she is lyrical and subtle."</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background: white; color: #050505; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">

presents Irish Folk Duo Niamh Parsons and Graham Dunne on Sunday, October 15,
at 4 pm. With a penchant for Irish ballads, Niamh Parsons is considered one of
the most distinctive voices in Irish music. Paired with Dublin native Graham
Dunne, a versatile guitarist and expert accompannist, their performances are simultaneously
haunting, heartwarming, and sublime.</span> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="PT-BR">Described in the Boston Herald as both
emotionally haunting and tonally as clear as crystal, Parsons albums have been
‘must-have’ collector’s items for any lover of songs and singing and many
consider her one of the best. With 9 Albums to her name, Parsons has gathered a
body of songs from many sources, both traditional and modern songwriters.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="PT-BR">Growing up in Dublin, Parson’s music-loving
parents brought herself and her sister to the local folk club in The Old
Shieling Hotel in Raheny, where the young girls were exposed to songs and
singing from the likes of The Johnstons, Emmet Spiceland, Sweeney’s Men, Dolly
McMahon, Danny Doyle and many of the other musicians and singers that were
playing in Folk clubs at that time. ‘My father was a great singer, and on long
journeys the family used to sing in the car – I don’t remember a time in my
life when I was not singing – I love songs.’</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="PT-BR">Parsons developed this love into a passion
for collecting songs. She is always on the lookout for songs that speak to her
– listening to new albums, scouring the Traditional Music Archives in Dublin,
sharing notes with a network of friends and other singers. Once she discovers a
song she likes, Niamh views herself as the vehicle for the music. ‘For me the
song is more important than listening to my voice’, she says. ‘I consider
myself more a songstress than a singer – a carrier of tradition.’<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="PT-BR"> </span>Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1974, Graham
Dunne is a multi-talented and versatile musician. Graham spent a great number of years living in
County Clare and while there, was very much involved in the Irish Traditional
music scene, having had the pleasure of accompanying a vast array of
wonderfully talented local musicians during that time. Dunne and Parsons have a
long-standing musical collaboration, having toured together since 1999.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Dunne is also a musician of eclectic taste, and his
musical explorations have seen him dabble in Jazz, Flamenco and Indian music,
even going so far as to study tabla for a time, which he now plays at sessions
regularly in Dublin. This eclecticism has led to the accumulation of a vast
repertoire of material,</p><p class="MsoNormal">Located at 25 E. Main Street, Frostburg,

singer-songwriters Antje Duvekot and Ellis Paul will share the stage of
Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main Street, Frostburg, Sunday, March 26
at 4 pm. The show is open to the public with a suggested donation of $15. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Originally
born in Germany and transplanted to the US as a young teen, Antje Duvekot began
to hone her observational skills through a lens of biculturalism when she
picked up a guitar during that move. Some years later, the confessional folk of
Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco gave her license to share her observations, no
matter how personal, in her first emerging songs. She has never let go of that
tenet of vulnerability.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">"Duvekot
has gotten hotter, faster than any local songwriter in recent memory. Her songs
feel at once fresh faced and firmly rooted, driven by the whispery sensuality
of her voice. She believes in the redemptive power of the shared secret; and is
utterly unafraid to mine the darkest corners of her life for songs that turn
fear into resilience and isolation into community.” The Boston Globe<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Antje has
extensive touring experience. She is a compelling live performer and has been
invited to play top festivals, such as the Newport Folk Festival, Mountain
Stage, Philadelphia, and Kerrville Festivals and others. Internationally, she's
headlined the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Tonder Festival
in Denmark. Antje has won some of the top songwriting awards, including the
Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and the "Best New
Folk Award" at Kerrville. In one of the nation's top music markets, she
won the Boston Music Award for "Outstanding Folk Act". She has
appeared on various NPR programs.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Though some
may refer to Ellis Paul as a folk singer, he is more, for lack of a better
word, a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and
yet also express the feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can
relate to in one way or another, regardless of age or upbringing. The
exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for
redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The
sharing of love..., intimate, passionate and enduring.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7EmrdzuwCrPCxvVHkwtER3nxyqiQ936OFQkCUxwmMip4TBsm0Yg7bKhKcLAhX4lwoomhJ2eEfQW2XEP8f6750_vihbzhT7E2xM8z6ilHmBppjFsEyWiYA_2HRlB1sabyYdewqTqY0_fYuJqAac46q03hbebSOugGj7qOUOEJ95VIs8zH1FX828SeU/s4268/Ellis%20Paul.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; font-size: medium; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4268" data-original-width="3000" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7EmrdzuwCrPCxvVHkwtER3nxyqiQ936OFQkCUxwmMip4TBsm0Yg7bKhKcLAhX4lwoomhJ2eEfQW2XEP8f6750_vihbzhT7E2xM8z6ilHmBppjFsEyWiYA_2HRlB1sabyYdewqTqY0_fYuJqAac46q03hbebSOugGj7qOUOEJ95VIs8zH1FX828SeU/w264-h374/Ellis%20Paul.jpeg" width="264" /></a><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">“Some
artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times.
It’s a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that
also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their
era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce
Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may
possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who
find that common bond, be it in a coming of age, living through the same
realities or sharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters.”-

recognized members of the traditional music community, noted for their
instrumental skills and diverse repertoire of traditional and contemporary
song. Both are songwriters, who love and research traditional Irish/Scottish
songs. With an engaging stage presence and understated virtuosity, they present

toured and recorded with diverse artists including experimental folk composer
Oliver Schroer (nominated for Canada’s National East Coast Music Award) and
Kentucky’s Will Oldham (an album which received 5 stars in Mojo Magazine). Nuala

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span class="color35"><span style="border: 1pt none windowtext; line-height: 107%; padding: 0in;">Ronstadt
Brothers, Michael and Peter, are keeping their family’s music legacy alive.
While their aunt, Linda Ronstadt, is the most famous of the Ronstadt family,
Michael and Peter represent the fifth generation of musicians in a family where
musical virtuosity runs deep. The Ronstadt Brothers p</span></span><span style="background: white; line-height: 107%;">resent a new and fresh take
on the traditional Southwestern and Mexican folk songs and offer innovative
original material to millennials discovering the treasure of roots music. An
aural illustration of inception to creation, this musical journey will take you
from the past to the present steeped in the Americana vein, carrying forward a
sound closely tied in its infancy to their aunt Linda and their father Michael.

two decades, Michael G. Ronstadt has entertained audiences throughout North
America on cello, guitar and voice. An exceptional musician-composer conversant
with a wide range of styles, he not only executes captivating solo
performances, but participates regularly in duo and trio situations with a
diverse camp of young, innovative musician-songwriters including Lisa Biales and
David Trotta. His versatile talents have been tapped for concert and studio
work by such artists as David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt, Muriel Anderson and
Craig Bickhardt.</span></span><span style="line-height: 107%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span class="color35"><span style="border: 1pt none windowtext; line-height: 107%; padding: 0in;">Michael
G. displays genre-blending explorations on cello and guitar in complement to
thought-provoking lyrics. To say his originals are unusual is an
understatement. They set the bar at Olympian heights in their depth and
breadth. In addition to his solo recordings as well as those with Ronstadt Brothers,</span></span><span style="line-height: 107%;"> <span class="color35"><span style="border: none windowtext 1.0pt; mso-border-alt: none windowtext 0in; padding: 0in;">Michael G. is a much
sought-after studio musician, who has appeared on more than fifty albums in the
last dozen years. Dan Buckley writing for The Tucson Citizen noted his “amazing
command of the typical and exotic sounds of the cello, a true virtuoso and a
man of instinctive musicality.” Michael holds both a Master and Bachelor of
Music in Cello Performance and studied under esteemed pedagogues Yehuda Hanani,
Nancy Green and Dr. Gordon Epperson. </span></span></span><o:p></o:p></span></p>

out on violin in grade school, Peter “Petie” Ronstadt traded “up” to bass

well. He continued on all three instruments in his high school concert,
marching and jazz bands.</span></span><span style="line-height: 107%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

rock group, The Goodbye Kiss, in which he played guitar and sang. This led to a
record deal with a small Southern California label and the release of a
self-titled EP. It was this set of circumstances that provided the engineering
education and fueled Petie’s passion for the recording process. He teamed up
with bassist Sam Eagon (a member of Los Tucsonenses) and founded LandMark Sound
Recorders, a studio in Tucson, where they continue to serve the regional music
community.</span></span><span style="line-height: 107%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

You will hear his passion for the music is in his lively and fluid playing.</div>Mountain City Traditional Artshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12792275809389240142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4715616795540518488.post-46981980972446378422020-12-18T07:10:00.001-08:002020-12-18T07:10:23.173-08:00<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG3rOuJn_4qAZbgcCrBBHFu-uliOBkuSz-sk8T9d1wFsB3mYnCzaMlwQzx8Vr6vS0LAXBgR6v6pqNVg1RJfaAJmNfMNeVqTmuaxzTBJFiL7bJ2fZOnlvxPmaFN_G1lKjVIE6liUPryeVo/s1200/Songs+for+a+winter%2527s+night.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="705" data-original-width="1200" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG3rOuJn_4qAZbgcCrBBHFu-uliOBkuSz-sk8T9d1wFsB3mYnCzaMlwQzx8Vr6vS0LAXBgR6v6pqNVg1RJfaAJmNfMNeVqTmuaxzTBJFiL7bJ2fZOnlvxPmaFN_G1lKjVIE6liUPryeVo/w400-h235/Songs+for+a+winter%2527s+night.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p style="background-color: white; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="border: 0px; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection</b> will be bringing you "Songs For A Winter's Night" in collaboration with the folks at Mountain City Traditional Arts in Frostburg, MD on Christmas Eve, </span><span style="border: 0px; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><b>Thursday, December 24 at 8 p.m. </b></span><span style="border: 0px; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"> The Maine-based band will be streaming an hour of seasonal and holiday songs while you sit by your cozy fire, or perhaps in the glow of your Christmas tree, enjoying your favorite winter beverage.</span><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 13px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: start; vertical-align: baseline;"><div style="border: 0px; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">The Bluegrass Connection have been five very busy musical elves working on holiday and seasonal songs for this concert and who knows what surprises may happen! Formed in Dublin in 2015, The Jeremiahs
give a contemporary urban feel to traditional Irish music. They shape
their sound with Dubliner Joe Gibney’s beautiful vocals and some
whistle (not at the same time); Julien Bruneteau from Brittany who
plays whistle and flutes; Dublin-based James Ryan who holds down the
rhythm section on guitar and bouzouki and a few choice effects
pedals; and finally, Jean Christophe Morel, another Frenchmen drawn
to Dublin by Irish Traditional Music, who does the bulk of the work
on fiddle.<br />

loved them so much last year that we're having them back. This is a
show that shouldn't be missed! Amazing musicians; incredible music.
Talent runs deep in the Ronstadt family. The Ronstadt Brothers
continue a musical tradition passed from generation to generation in
the Ronstadt family. They present a new and fresh take on the
traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their family’s
heritage while offering innovative original material to millennials
discovering the treasure of roots music. And they bring a new spin
to songs you grew up with. Carrying forward a sound closely tied in
its infancy to their aunt Linda and their father Michael, join the
Ronstadt Brothers on their journey through the Post-Modern American
West. They'll be joined by American Roots Band, Probably Whiskey, to
open. Don’t miss this! </span><span class="sd-abs-pos" style="left: 0in; position: absolute; top: 0in; width: 250px;"></span>

If it’s been discovered by man, West
Virginian Todd Burge has written about it. Born to ponder and observe
life, each of his songs tells a story. Whether drawn from personal
experience or a tale of poetically woven fiction, you’ll live every
second of it through his songs. Burge has achieved the coveted title
of a Mountain State Regular—Burge earned a jacket after ten
Mountain Stage performances in 2015 and has stepped in to host on
occasion. He’s performed and collaborated with or shared the stage
with many musicians over the years including Tim O’Brien, Larry
Groce, Bela Fleck, Lucinda Williams, and Hot Tuna. Whether on stage
at the Kennedy Center or in front of an audience of ten-year olds,
the wit, humor, and artistry he brings to songcraft is mesmerizing.
This afternoon show is family friendly.<span class="sd-abs-pos" style="left: 0in; position: absolute; top: 0.04in; width: 171px;"></span><br />

<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
Growing up, musicians Joe Newberry and April Verch absorbed traditions of
home and hearth -in his Missouri Ozarks and her Ottawa Valley of
Canada. The holidays have always been a special time of year for
both, with the lure of family and friends, festive decorations, gifts
under the tree, and always.... music. So now, each year the duo sets
out in a modern-day sleigh (with four-wheel drive) to perform their
eagerly anticipated holiday tour. Original songs join timeless hymns.
Stories warm the heart and give a twinkle to the eye. Lively fiddle
and banjo numbers combine with traditional dance steps to illustrate
happy times when people made their own fun at the holidays, and all
year long. Make your holiday concert list, and check it twice...
Newberry and Verch are coming to town!

<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
Joe
Newberry grew up in a family full of singers and dancers. He took up
the guitar and banjoas a teenager and learned fiddle tunes from great
Missouri fiddlers. April Verch grew uplistening to her Dad’s
country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. She started
stepdancing at age three and fiddling at age six. Both Newberry &
Verch became masters of their traditions and tour the world with
their respective bands and projects. Yet they never forgetthe roots
of their music, that connection to the people in the audience, on the
dance floor, to the community sparked by a good song.
</div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
For
these veteran performers who come from distinct traditions and parts
of the world, their collaboration is fueled by their kindred passion
for bringing people together to celebrate traditional music. Blues
and ballads stem into Canadian regional styles and originals. Their
voices blend in harmony, their tasteful instrumentals prove that
these masters have nothingleft to prove, and then their feet kick up
the dust in perfect rhythm...and together, they make you remember why
this music existed in the first place.</div>

All have left their mark on his eclectic approach to music.</div>

Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello both grew up in families steeped in Ireland’s rich music history. McCarthy, was born in London to Irish parents, who emigrated from the west of Ireland in the early 1950s. His father Tommy Sr. was a well known piper & concertina player from Co. Clare, so Tommy grew up listening to traditional music and playing with all of the legendary Irish players who were living in London.</div>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 11pt;">Frostburg State University’s Mountain City Traditional Arts will host an evening of Irish songs and music with Steph Geremia and the Flyaways on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at 25 E. Main St. in Frostburg. The live entertainment is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $15.</span></div>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 11pt;">One of the finest musicians of her generation, Irish-American flautist and singer Geremia shares music steeped in Ireland’s North Connaught tradition. Joined by master fiddler Ben Gunnery, of Riverdance, and Scottish-American guitarist and vocalist Alan Murray, the trio delivers a vibrantly compelling show.</span></div>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 11pt;">Geremia's 2018 solo release, “Up She Flew,” described by Irish Music magazine as “an unexpected treasure,” captures long-standing regional musical styles. “This album has not only been inspired by the rich North Connaught repertoire and particular tune settings from the players from this region, but also from a time when these great musicians breathed life into the tunes with their slight variations and subtle re-phrasing of every bar, when variations mimicked the landscape and one could get lost in the modal discrepancies,” said Geremia.</span></div>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 11pt;">Her bandmates for this performance, Gunnery and Murray, contributed to Geremia’s newest album. Each brings a rich performance background. Gunnery, a master fiddler, has been performing on stage since he was 10 years old. Music has provided him the opportunity to travel the world, playing with such impressive ensembles as Riverdance and Barrage. Murray, originally from Scotland, has toured extensively, has been featured on multiple recordings and has shared his knowledge and talents through classes and workshops.</span></div>
