Live Irish Music Awards, 2018
Formed in Dublin in 2015, The Jeremiahs
give a contemporary urban feel to traditional Irish music. They shape
their sound with Dubliner Joe Gibney’s beautiful vocals and some
whistle (not at the same time); Julien Bruneteau from Brittany who
plays whistle and flutes; Dublin-based James Ryan who holds down the
rhythm section on guitar and bouzouki and a few choice effects
pedals; and finally, Jean Christophe Morel, another Frenchmen drawn
to Dublin by Irish Traditional Music, who does the bulk of the work
on fiddle.
The Wild Barrow Road
The Wild Barrow Road
We
loved them so much last year that we're having them back. This is a
show that shouldn't be missed! Amazing musicians; incredible music.
Talent runs deep in the Ronstadt family. The Ronstadt Brothers
continue a musical tradition passed from generation to generation in
the Ronstadt family. They present a new and fresh take on the
traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their family’s
heritage while offering innovative original material to millennials
discovering the treasure of roots music. And they bring a new spin
to songs you grew up with. Carrying forward a sound closely tied in
its infancy to their aunt Linda and their father Michael, join the
Ronstadt Brothers on their journey through the Post-Modern American
West. They'll be joined by American Roots Band, Probably Whiskey, to
open. Don’t miss this!
Valley of Our Kin
Valley of Our Kin
This interactive, family-friendly celebration of Spring features
characters from Val's Gold Medal Moonbeam Children's Book
Award-winning book Springtime Dance. Val will bring 5 three-foot tall
Flamingo marionettes for a rollicking Pink Flamingo CanCan inviting
audience members to operate the marionettes. The engaging performance introduces audiences to puppetry and
ventriloquism through song and dance. The program is supported by a
grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. MCTA will also feature
artisans and additional activities as part of the Arts Walk. Silly Goose and Val
• Todd Burge,
Saturday, May 9, 4 pm
“Todd belongs in the company of Peter Stampfel, Todd Snider and Paul Thorn with Roger Miller winking from beyond. Look upon his works, ye Mighty, and despair!” — Larry Groce - Mountain Stage Host (NPR)
If it’s been discovered by man, West
Virginian Todd Burge has written about it. Born to ponder and observe
life, each of his songs tells a story. Whether drawn from personal
experience or a tale of poetically woven fiction, you’ll live every
second of it through his songs. Burge has achieved the coveted title
of a Mountain State Regular—Burge earned a jacket after ten
Mountain Stage performances in 2015 and has stepped in to host on
occasion. He’s performed and collaborated with or shared the stage
with many musicians over the years including Tim O’Brien, Larry
Groce, Bela Fleck, Lucinda Williams, and Hot Tuna. Whether on stage
at the Kennedy Center or in front of an audience of ten-year olds,
the wit, humor, and artistry he brings to songcraft is mesmerizing.
This afternoon show is family friendly.
